Milton Johnson is chairman and chief executive officer of Nashville, Tennessee-based HCA, one of the leading healthcare providers in the country with 179 hospitals, 120 freestanding surgery centers in 20 states and the United Kingdom. A $41.5 billion company, HCA and its 240,000 employees provide approximately five percent of U.S. hospital services.

Under Johnson’s leadership, HCA has advanced clinical quality throughout its hospitals, using data from its more than 27 million patient encounters annually to identify leading clinical practices and continually improve patient care and save lives.

A 35-year veteran of HCA, Johnson has served in various financial and senior management positions for the company, including head of the Tax Department, senior vice president and controller, and executive vice president and chief financial officer. Johnson became president of HCA in 2011 and was appointed CEO in January 2014. He was elected chairman on December 31 of that year.

Johnson provides leadership to the healthcare industry and Nashville community through his service on various boards and organizations. Currently, he serves as chairman of the Federation of American Hospitals, Nashville Chamber of Commerce and The HCA Foundation. He serves on the American Heart Association’s CEO Roundtable, and is a member of Business Roundtable and The Business Council. He also serves on the boards of the Center for Medical Interoperability, Nashville Health Care Council and the United Way of Metropolitan Nashville.

A graduate of Belmont University, Johnson also is a member of his alma mater’s Board of Trustees.
